പുതിയ പുസ്തകങ്ങൾക്ക് പിന്നാലെ അധികം ഈ വർഷം പോകാതിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ ബുക്കർ ലോങ്ങ് ലിസ്റ്റിൽ അറിയാത്ത പുസ്തകങ്ങളുണ്ട്. Labatut-ന്റെ When We Cease to Understand the World എന്ന പുസ്തകം ലിസ്റ്റിൽ വന്നത് കൗതുകമായി. ഹിസ്റ്റോറിക് സയന്റിഫിക് സംഭവങ്ങളെയും ആളുകളെയും ഭാവന കലർത്തി അവതരിപ്പിയ്ക്കുന്ന ഈ പുസ്തകം നോൺ ഫിക്ഷൻ നോവൽ എന്നാണ് വിളിയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ടുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നത്. സെബാൾഡിയൻ രീതിയിൽ history of destruction നോക്കിക്കാണുന്നു എന്നൊക്കെ അവകാശവാദമുണ്ടെങ്കിലും നോവലിന്റെ അവസാനഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ എന്റെ ക്ഷമ പരീക്ഷിയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ടു. സെബാൾഡ് എന്നൊക്കെ അലസമായി ഉപയോഗിയ്ക്കുന്നു എന്നേ കാണേണ്ടതുള്ളൂ (ഇപ്പോൾ ഇമ്മട്ടിൽ എഴുതുന്ന എല്ലാവരും സെബാൾഡാണ്, സെബാൾഡിന്റെ ദുർഗ്ഗതി).
